We had a great weekend down here in Carlsbad, CA. On Friday, Dane and I kicked it off at an Ice Cream Social at La Costa Community Park right down the street from us. I joined this group of moms on www.meetup.com and am now attending regular play dates with them. Dane seemed to have a great time and of course, enjoyed his ice cream to the fullest!
Saturday was a day of work and play for us. Mike was working on some stuff for the Barona drag racing event next weekend (click here for info on that) and I was cleaning and hangin' with the kids. In the afternoon, we headed over to Dave and Liz Bowe's house. Thanks to Kevin and Claire Canatsey, we've gotten to know this couple (and their adorable 7 week old daughter, Addison) a little bit and have had a great time playing at their house. They have a huge pool and back yard and the kids and dads ran amuck for hours. Also visiting were long time friends of the Canatsey and Bowe families, John and Carrie from Omaha, Nebraska. Needless to say, after moving from San Diego over a year ago, they were soaking up the sun and enjoying the pool more than all of us! Carrie held Ryan a little bit, too to get her baby fix since they left their kids at home. Smart mama:)
According to the dads, Father's Day started early (around 3:00pm Saturday), so the ladies were told they had to be the designated drivers. Yeah, Mike still drove home. Ha ha! None of us moms remembered our Mother's Days starting early, but ahh...we let it slide:) The boys had a nice time playing ping pong and soaking in the hot tub. What a great Saturday we had!
Sunday being Father's Day (officially), Mike went surfing early in the morning, then once the kids went down for a nap, he got out there for a second time. He even got to surf with no wetsuit! 68 degrees, baby! After a great start to the day, we headed down to Nana and Granddaddy Roblee's house for dinner. Mark made a fantastic meal of New York Steak, Corn, Grilled Pineapple, Baked Taters, and I brought the salad and dessert. Not only did we eat like kings, but we finally taught Dane how to play hide and seek! He absolutely loved it. At first, he wasn't sure how to hide. Every time we'd go to find him, he'd say, "Here I am!" LOL! So, Mike showed him how he was supposed to stay very quiet, and boy, the games were on. Every time Ryan and I hid, though, Ryan would start crying. We didn't make a good team:)
This morning, Dane had his first day of summer camp. The class is called "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" and the kids do tons of projects and crafts having to do with the topic. Dane had an absolutely WONDERFUL time and the teachers were so nice and sweet to the kids. It was nice for me to have a little "Kristy" time, too. Everyone was happy all around!
Hopefully everyone had a lovely weekend and a full Father's Day. We love you all very much!
